Upon receiving the assignment, I started brainstorming about what/who I wanted to be for this interesting 10-week project, Be Who You Are Not.
I wanted to make this 10-week individual assignment interesting, different and most importantly, fulfilling! Hence, deciding which topic would suit me was a difficult process.
I love to explore, challenge myself and meet new people. I started working when I was 15, and I thought that this individual assignment could give me the opportunity to experience what it is like to take up different jobs especially those that I have always been curious about but never got to try and would probably never take up otherwise. This would definitely involve me stepping out of my comfort zone, and be who I am not.
In order to complete this assignment in 10 weeks, I decided to experience a different job every week for 8 weeks. I hoped to work-shadow the person I was attached to and learn from them the skills needed for that particular job for one day, with no salary.
Here are some of the ideas I had initially:
- To be a Drinker
I don't drink so I thought that drinking at
least a bottle/can each day may be an interesting challenge. At the
same time, I would be able to explore
different types of alcohol such as stout beer with egg, japanese sakae,
and many more.... However, when I discussed my idea with my family and
friends, I received negative feedback that i would
be putting my liver at risk! They
also pointed out that I might actually become an alcoholic after the
10 weeks! Hence, after much consideration I
decided to drop this topic...
- Speak Cantonese
I can't converse in Cantonese for nuts!
As of now, I can only speak
simple Canto phrases, basically those people use to swear. HAHA!
Hence, I thought that this 10-week project would have been a great opportunity to "force" myself to
learn how to speak Canto. However, I considered the fact
that videoing is no longerallowed in our syllabus. Hence,
I chose to give up this idea and move on as I forsaw problems
presenting my project otherwise.
- To be someone who is Colour blind
This stemmed from a random thought, i,e. to
have pictures taken in monochrome.
- To be someone who lifts AKA Gym Enthusiast
- To lose my sense of taste
