Challenges Faced
1) Rejections
I faced many rejections in the process of
finding relevant companies who would employ me for a day. Some companies were
more flexible while others had really strict company policies which did not
allow my very short and temporary employment. Most companies were not able to
hire me as I was not officially employed, as it is against the law. For certain
jobs, I was so desperate that I went to the extent of meeting the employers face-to-face
to explain my assignment to them. Thankfully, many employers were very
understanding and were willing to help me, so they gave me the job.
2) Time Management
It was certainly not easy to
study and work every week. It required extremely good time management skills. I
was also trying to clear 23AUs during the semester and am heavily committed to
my CCA. Due to time constraints, I chose to experience 8 jobs in 8 weeks
instead of 10.
3) Emotions
I felt upset whenever I
failed to manage my school workload and had to face rejections from companies. The
turning point came when my midterm results weren’t up to my expectations. I was
so tempted to look for easier job alternatives but I constantly reminded myself
to be resilient and that taking the easy way out was not the solution. Mind
over Body!
