Week 2: Hair Salon
Week 2: Hair Salon
30th August 2014
Company: Le Sassoon

I contacted the Boss through phone call and told her about my project and if I could be of assistance to her in her salon, and she kindly agreed to let me work for her for a day!

Prior to this, I was under the impression that being a hair dressing assistant would not be too difficult and that I would handle the job well. I was proved wrong when I started meeting customers. I realized that the job was not that simple after all. To my surprise, there are specific techniques to wash and blow dry the customers' hair.

What did I do?
During the one day experience in the saloon, I helped to wash customer's hair, blow dry hair, remove curlers, tidy the place and run errands (during the non-peak period). That day, I had an interesting experience. I helped to iron a customer’s hair. I cannot deny that I felt a little nervous as I was worried that the customer would feel uncomfortable due to my lack of experience. Thankfully, I have some experience in straightening my own hair so everything went smoothly.

This experience taught me to always be on my feet and ready to serve customers as the crowd in the saloon was unpredictable and very busy especially during peak periods.

Jessie is a very friendly and nice lady. I am so grateful that she agreed upon my request almost immediately and gave me the opportunity to experience a day in the hair saloon. Thank you!
