Week 6: Kindergarten
23rd September 2014
Company: Learning Vision @ NTU
I started sourcing for jobs in this field by emailing
my resume to a handful of kindergartens in Singapore, expressing my interest in
being a kindergarten teacher’s assistant for a day. However, there were no
responses after weeks.
I had always wanted to work in a kindergarten
so I started researching for more schools. After doing some research I realised
there is actually a childcare centre located in NTU!! I was so excited that I
went straight to the school. I was then told to email my request to the
Principal, Mrs Debbie. Shortly after my email was sent, she called me and we
met up soon after. Mrs Debbie suggested that I work on 23rd September 2014. I
was attached to a K1 teacher, Aisyah. *Yayyy!*
What did I do?
I was first introduced to the children in the
school. The children called me Teacher Grace. I felt a tinge of happiness whenever
I heard them calling me that. Hehe. During the one day experience, I shadowed
Aisyah. I assisted her in areas such as serving food to the children, ensuring
they showered properly and making sure the children behaved themselves
Note: I was told not to take pictures of the
children's faces to maintain privacy. Pictures below depict the activities
they participated in that.

Looking after the
children felt different from other jobs. Children are so innocent and lively.
They are unafraid to express their true feelings and have no hidden agendas. I
really enjoyed my time in the kindergarten.
I didn't manage to
thank Mrs Debbie personally as she was on sick leave. I did, however, send her
a thank-you message after I left the school.
